Did Technology Improve Our Lives

Modern technology did improve human life tremendously in so many facets. We are going to look at the improvement of technology to the human race in the area such as Agriculture, Communication, Transportation, Education, Sports, Trade, and Commerce. Sit tight let’s get the ball rolling… Before then, our previous topic “How technology has influenced us” is an interesting one to read.

Technology has mechanized agriculture:

Modern agricultural technology and tools allow a small number of people to grow vast quantities of food in a short period of time with less input which results in high yields and return on investment. Many local farmers have managed to acquire plowing, sowing, watering and harvesting machines. Instead of manual cultivations with hoes, we now have mechanized tractors; instead of manual weeding we now have chemicals that kill weeds. The aid of technology in agriculture ‎has also resulted in the manufacturing of genetic crops which can grow fast and they can be resistant to many pests and diseases. Also, farmers have access to artificial fertilizers which add value to the soil and boost the growth of their crops and enable them to produce high-quality yields. Farmers in dry areas have been in a position to grow healthy crops, with the help of advanced water pumps and sprinklers which derive water from rivers to the farms, the all process can be automated to save time and increase yields.

With modern technology, livestock productions have increased and made easy. We can now boast of cattle colonies and close grazings instead of moving cattle from region to region. Also, we have produced mechanized feeds and feeding for our livestock.

Through technology, food processing and storage is now done with ease. Food crops can be transformed and processed into various means and forms for our consumption.

With technology, we can produce so many items of goods from one source of farm produce.

With chat messengers such as Yahoo, WhatsApp, Facebook, Wechat, Skype, Youtube and Snapchat, we can now share instant messages, pictures, audios and videos from one location to another within the twinkle of an eye, and such messages, audios, and videos can be stored for future use or reference.

DID TECHNOLOGY EXIST BEFORE NOW

Technology has improved education and learning process.

Education is the backbone of every economy. People need well and organized educational infrastructures and institution so they can learn how to interpret information efficiently and effectively. Educational institutions are integrating educational technologies in their schools with a great aim of improving the way teachers teach and how students learn. Technologies like smart whiteboards, computers, mobile phones, pads , projectors, and internet are being used in classes and lecture halls‎ to boost teaching and learning. Visual education is becoming more popular and it has shown to be the best method of learning in many subjects like mathematics, physics, biology, geography, economics etc. These have made the business community to invest in various educational technologies which can be used by both teachers and students. For example, on app stores, you will find many educational applications which can allow students and teachers exchange academic information at any time, this has made learning mobile and flexible.

Also, programs like Long distance learning have opened boundaries too so many scholars around the world. People can be gaining education or knowledge from a foreign institution while at their local base

Similarly, through the internet, people can learn so many skills, languages and knowledge through virtual and online instructors. It’s due to the online system which has helped the poor and those restricted by external factors in rural factors to enjoy the gain of being educated and remain equality with the civilized society.

Classroom lectures and learning have been improved by technological tools such as CD-Tapes, Laptops, FlashDrives, Calculators, Pagers, and Recorders.

Technology has improved transportation:

Transportation is one of the basic areas of technological activity. Both society and businesses have benefited from the new transportation methods. Transportation provides mobility for people and goods. Transportation, like all other technologies, can be viewed as a system. It is a series of parts that are interrelated. These parts all work together to meet a certain goal. Transportation uses vehicles, trains, airplanes, motorbikes, people, roads, energy, information, materials, finance and time. All these parts operate in unison to move and relocate people and goods. Technology has helped in advancing all the four types of transportation and these include ; (1) road transport used by automobiles ,(2) air transport which is used by airplanes , (3)water transportation which is used by ships and speed boats and (4)space transportation used to go to the moon. The most used of all these is Road transportation, this one facilitates the movement of goods and people. Technologies like automobiles, buses, trains, and trucks have improved the way humans locomote and how we transmit our goods from place to another. ‎

Advancement in technology has improved our life tremendously in various forms and area. Essays and thesis can now be written digitally, researchers are done effortlessly, we can connect with the wider world easily, perform commercial transactions accurately and sharply, increase agricultural yields, we have found cures and medicine to diseases, gotten new and better avenues to secure lives and properties, and so on. A naysayer might claim that technology exposed us to various dangers and risks, but those risks have more to do with persons handling the tool than the technology itself. Placing the blames of our inability and failure to positively make use of the tools on technology is a bit misnomer.
