Choose A University
The First line of action is to select a university and the course you desire to study. The German Academic Exchange Service has a list of programmes in Database to search from.
It is on that platform that you will see the list of programmes from your potential university. The bad news is, opportunities for study in English language are limited.
Most courses are taught in German language. However, for some, there are a combination of English and German.
Check Admission Requirement
Before Applying check the university requirements and documents needed, have a list of all needed by the German Universities. And the documents you have, that are available.
To study in Germany you will need to have a recognized “higher education entrance qualification”A school leaving certificate, high diploma certificate will be sufficient for prospective undergraduate students.
Check Language requirements also, most courses are taught in German. And these require proficiency in German Language, except course is also taught in English Language.
Apply for Admission
Apply directly to the international office of the university, for most courses. Or as an international student use the centralized admission portal www.uni-assist.de which is controlled by the German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD) or you may apply directly at the university
website and course to increase your chance of admission as not all University use the centralized portal (DAAD)Admission can be applied twice a year at some German universities for a study at winter or summer semester.
Note: Application deadlines varies for many universities as deadlines will be given by the university, at time deadline for Summer need to be made by January 15th while winter July 15th. Ensure to check the date for the chosen course.
How to Apply
The best approach is to submit applications not later than 6 weeks to deadline. This is to ensure that required documents, information, additional information or missing information are added.
When to Expect Admission
One or two months after application deadline, you can begin to expect your admission which would be evident with either an acceptance or rejection.
The Required Documents
Different school require different documents. However, the common documents amongst diverse schools include:
- A copy of your Passport
- Letter of Reference (2 -3 References)
- A certified copy of your previous degree or any relevant qualification
- Proof of language proficiency ( a test certificate)
- Application fee (may be required).

Get a Student Visa

Secure a Health Insurance
